Our Mission

Our mission is to promote early detection of skin cancers by partnering advanced cell phone technology with highly qualified dermatology providers. CheckMySpot provides an accurate and convenient asynchronous teledermatology screening service that informs users whether a skin spot is benign at that point in time, or whether it appears worrisome and needs to be evaluated in person. If a clinic visit is warranted, our service facilitates an expedited referral to the user’s dermatologist or one nearby. The CheckMySpot website has a Resource page that will educate users on how to identify worrisome skin spots on themselves and others, and stresses the importance of monitoring changes in spots over time. CheckMySpot will not only empower patient users to be more aware of skin spots; it will also remove barriers to access of care by expediting referrals. All aspects of the CheckMySpot mission support our main goal: the early detection of skin cancer.

The CheckMySpot service is committed to full adherence to the standards of teledermatology set forth by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Telemedicine Association. CheckMySpot fully supports the premise that there is no substitute for an “in person” clinic exam as well as the American Academy of Dermatology’s recommendation that all persons receive an annual “in person” complete skin exam. Accurate and expedited screening of skin lesions is our top priority because we recognize that early detection matters to improve patient outcomes and save lives.

Our Physicians

CheckMySpot Dermatologist Screeners are credentialed dermatology providers who review patient photos to provide rapid, expert dispositions. Our standards for every screener set the bar for an optimal experience for both patients and physicians:

  • Highly-trained and board-certified Dermatologists with years of experience identifying potential skin cancers.

  • Licensed and credentialed in state where patients reside.

  • Have demonstrated excellent performance to their State Medical Board(s) and dermatology peers.

  • Ability to review images within 24-48 hours.

Our Referral Network

If a Screener determines that further evaluation is needed, CheckMySpot refers the patient either to their own dermatologist or to a board-certified dermatology practice nearby.

There is no financial relationship between CheckMySpot and the referral dermatology practices, all of which are staffed by board-certified, highly experienced dermatology providers. In order to be a part of our referral network, practices agree to see referrals in a timely manner (ideally within one business week) and must maintain positive ratings on surveys.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide our patient users with a superior quality and convenient asynchronous teledermatology screening service. We will improve access to qualified dermatology care with this service by utilizing advances in cell phone cameras and software technology to provide our patient users with a screening disposition for a skin spot of concern within 24-48 hours. Our goal is two-fold. One is to reduce weeks of unnecessary patient user anxiety about benign appearing spots. The second is to expedite an “in-clinic” appointment with a user’s own dermatologist or a certified dermatologist nearby in the event a spot appears worrisome for skin cancer. CheckMySpot appreciates that early detection matters in improving patient outcomes and has made reducing delays in obtaining “in-person” clinic visits for diagnosis and treatment a service objective.

The CheckMySpot service is committed to full adherence to the high standards of teledermatology set forth by the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Telemedicine Association. CheckMySpot fully supports the premise that ultimately there is no substitute for an “in-person” clinic exam as well as the American Academy of Dermatology’s recommendation that all persons receive an annual “in-person” complete skin exam. Accurate and expedited screening of skin lesions is our top priority because we recognize that early detection matters to improve patient outcomes and save lives.
